What is FabIQ?

FabIQ is MacroFab's intelligence platform custom built to replace slow and frustrating PCBA manufacturing practices.  FabIQ takes MacroFab's quoting data, extensive experience making a wide variety of PCBAs, and enhanced part data to give you instant quotes and insights on how to improve your design for manufacturing and pricing.

Current Capabilities:

  1. Instant quotes for more custom PCB features
  2. Engineer-approved alternate suggestions
  3. Fine-tuned labor quoting

Future Capabilities:

  1. Bill of Materials reporting with pricing and lifecycle insights
  2. Bulk add populate your passive parts from your placement data

Instant Quotes for Custom PCBs

FabIQ uses a custom-built machine learning model to provide instant quotes on 95% of the PCBs  ordered on the MacroFab platform.  Previously you had to request a custom quote to get features such as a custom stackup or high layer count.

Now FabIQ enables you to instantly price and order these PCBs, saving you time and enabling you to make informed purchasing decisions.

A summary of how the specifications changed is listed below.  ITAR orders may still need custom quotes.

Engineer-Approved Alternate Suggestions

FabIQ employs engineering reviewed parts data to find and suggest alternate parts.  Alternates can then be compared side-by-side to ensure you get all of the part parameters you are looking for.  FabIQ will automatically search for alternates on all items on your bill of materials with no availability, and you can see alternates for any item by expanding the BOM row.

Automatic Alternate Suggestions for Unavailable parts

When you have parts on your BOM with missing availability, you will see the below message alerting you of any items we found availability for.

For BOMs with many unavailable parts, this search may take a few seconds to complete.

You will also see alternates listed in the "Vendor Stock" column if we were able to locate alternate suggestions for your part.

When you expand the BOM row you will see the Suggested Alternates for your primary part.  You can choose another part to search using the search icon in the "Alternate Suggestions" column.

Add a part of check up to 5 parts to compare to your currently selected part.

Comparing a part will give you a side-by-side view of the parameters for all of the selected parts so you can have the final say on if the part is acceptable for your design.

Searching for Alternates for an Individual BOM Item

Expanding a BOM row will automatically begin an alternate search for the selected part for that BOM item.

Fine-Tuned Labor Quoting

FabIQ combines MacroFab's ability to extract complex data from your design files with insights from the thousands of PCBA designs we have manufactured to more accurately price the complexity of assembling your board.

By taking advantage of data in your design we can ensure:

  1. Complex boards get the setup they need to ensure the job is done on time and with high quality
  2. Simple boards do not get charged extra labor for unneeded setup

These changes will take place mostly behind the scenes, but they may shift where some of the labor costs appear on your orders.  If you have questions or concerns about your orders, please contact support@macrofab.com
