How do I add Alternates Parts to my BOM

MacroFab's new Approved Vendor Lists

The MacroFab Platform now supports lists of alternate MPNs to be used in place of the primary part for individual line items of a BOM. A green checkmark icon shows the predicted part to be used and how much it is predicted to cost at the time of order submission.

This list of alternate parts can be made reusable by assigning a title to the list called a “CPN” or Customer Part Number.  Once an alternative part list has been assigned a CPN it becomes a “Custom Alternative Part List” and can be centrally managed within “My Organization”

 

The MacroFab platform now support multiple MPN within a single BOM upload. A multi-column MPN BOM (.xlsx) can now be uploaded to the MacroFab BOM tool. The BOM tool will now accept multiple MPNs.

Below is an example of a Custom Alternate Part list. The list can be achieved by either uploading a .xlsx with more than one column for MPN or manually as detailed below. This Custom Alternate Part list has been given a CPN or Customer Part Number. Here is an example of the .xlsx

How to create a CPN - The CPN can be created simply by clicking its value and entering a name

                                                        

The parts comprising an alternate list can be found in the table under “Parts Allowed”

The “Parts Allowed“ table includes the new Strategic Sourcing Tool which contains a toggle for sorting parts by “Price” (in ascending order; least expensive to most expensive) or “Fixed” (user defined order)

“Price” will result in the purchasing of the lowest cost part in the alternate list that is capable of satisfying the target quantity

 

“Fixed” will result in the purchasing of the highest ranked part in the AVL (1 - highest, 2 - second highest, etc.) that is capable of satisfying the target quantity

A green checkmark icon shows the predicted part to be used and how much it is predicted to cost at the time of order submission. At this time we only support the order being placed if all demand can be satisfied by a single MPN. We do not allow the customer to specify that we use X of part ABC and Y of part DEF. However, at planning and purchasing time we do not preclude our supply chain team from doing this.

 

Individual components (MPNs) can be searched and added to the alternate list with the “Add a Component” search box

        

Search results for MPNs are displayed under the “Marketplace Components” table

Once a search is completed, simply click the Add Component button to add the component to your list of Alternate Parts.                                                                                 

                                                                           

 

Note: When an alternate list has been created, adding or removing parts will be reflected in all PCB BOMs that use the alternate list. When an alternative part list has been created and assigned a CPN (making it a “Custom Alternative Part List”), adding or removing parts to the list will be reflected in all PCB BOMs that use the CPN.

Alternate lists (CPNs) can be searched and selected to replace the current alternate list associated with a BOM row. Enter your CPN in the search box as seen below, and search for the CNP from within your Organization.

The search will provide each part or MPN which is included in the search for the CPN. 

Note: MPN, value, and package information has moved and is now located as seen below.

How to search for CNP

To delete an individual part, click on the red trash can icon.

From the My Organization screen one can also add components  

Adding a part manually is also available from this screen, the functionality is identical to that found in the BOM tool. Click the add Part Manually button

Then click the Add to Allowed Parts button to add the part. 

From this page a new CPN or Custom Alternate Part list can be created. To do so click the Add new list button. 

Click the save button to save the new CPN.

Once saved, you will see your new CPN in you list of CPN's.
